Good Mobility or Tight Scalp?
Not every donor area behaves the same way in hair transplant surgery. Two patients may look similar on the surface, yet one may have a flexible, mobile scalp while the other has a tight donor area that is much less forgiving. That difference can completely change the surgical plan.

posterior scalp elasticity is a critical factor in incisional hair transplant
procedures. A scalp that glides well and stretches appropriately usually allows
safer tissue harvesting and better wound closure. A tight scalp, on the other
hand, may limit how much tissue can be safely removed.
For patients, this is important because
more is not always better. If the scalp does not have enough elasticity, trying
to harvest too much tissue may create excessive tension. That tension can lead
to a higher chance of pain, bleeding, postoperative problems, visible scars,
and even more serious complications in extreme cases.
The video also presents a practical
self-test. By pressing the back of the head and shaking the scalp vertically,
patients may get a rough sense of how mobile their scalp is. Strong movement
suggests better mobility; limited movement may suggest lower elasticity. Still,
the doctor makes it clear that this is not a substitute for professional
measurement.

video is that elasticity is not a single concept. The doctor divides it into
elastic force and gliding capacity. That means donor evaluation should go
